Have you ever done something so embarrassing that you want to just make believe it didn't happen? Just go back in time, redo what went wrong and then move on with your life? I think that as I have "grown up" that I have been better able to handle these moments. When I was much younger I would get angry and insist that no one even mention bad moments that happened to me. In my old age I think I am able to manage these moments much better and even laugh at myself...as hard as that might be.
The other day I had one of these moments. I was talking on the phone to someone, and out of habit / reflex when hanging up the call said, "ok, talk to you later. I love you." Unfortunately for me this "someone" was not my wife - it was another guy. But Laura was listening and couldn't stop laughing for quite sometime. She is still laughing. I was distraught enough that I threw my phone (onto a soft couch) and turned beet red. My wife's occasional reference to the "incident" also doesn't help in my trying to move on with my life. Maybe that's why I've decided to just simply tell the world... Will that help?
I guess it is one of those things I am so used to saying to Laura that it just snuck in there. Is it a good thing that I tell my wife that I love her (which I do) or does is it mean that I use these words too casually without thinking? Should I stop saying that on the phone and reserve the "I Love You" phrase to more personal moments?
What are your most embarrassing moments?
What is your reaction when something mortifying happens to you?
What is the "best" way of dealing with these situations?
Thanks for reading...and "I Love You!"

Wow, I came so close the other day to doing the exact same thing. It was half way out of my mouth when I realized I was not talking to my wife. Close catch on my account. But as for embarrassing I believe it was you that I was talking to and called "Baby". And I believe there was laughing all around and my face beet red. Such is life.
First, it is a very good thing that you are in the habit of telling your wife you love her! Second, I have a more embarrassing phone story; maybe it'll make you feel better. I was 13, and I answered the phone late at night with "Dear Heavenly Father . . . uh, I mean Hello?" Luckily it was a wrong number. Yikes.
I know your wife has had lots of embarrassing moments. I could share one of hers, if you'd like...
I had one of my coaches at work tell me "I love you" once when he hung up the phone. I don't know if he ever realized what he said or was good at pretending it didn't happen. I'm sure it was a reflex but I was a little embarrassed. Mostly we got a good laugh around the office. And my boss got a kick out of teasing me that "weird coach Jeff" loved me. If I'd have known him better I'd have given him crap, but I just let it slide. -Robin
This post could just as easily have been written by your wife. She has some doozys. Hiding under the bed . . .
And here I thought that you really DID love me, but it was just a slip-of-the-tongue. Darn.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! LOVE IT! My most embarrassing moment happened in the school choir and we were singing a REALLY high note. And I got the timing wrong and went over so everybody stopped singing and I was singing loud and clear! It was horrible. I just laughed and pretended I didn't do it.
